ILAYDA

“Menstrual products are a human right”

This portrait introduces Ilayda, a young woman in Turkey who founded a non profit to raise awareness about the menstrual cycle and the rights connected to it. She works to help girls and women understand their bodies, but also to tackle a practical barrier, the cost of menstrual products. In Turkey they are taxed at the same rate as caviar and champagne, treated as luxury goods although they are basic needs. Ilayda wants this to change and argues for menstrual health to be recognised as a human right.

This episode was made in co-production with FRANCE TELEVISION.
