LENNY

“A much bigger battle”

We visited Hambach Forest and met several activists protesting against a German energy company that has destroyed 90 percent of this forest by mining the area for brown coal.
Hambacher forst is an ancient forest located in Germany. It’s nearly 12,000 years old, rich in biodiversity and home to 142 species regarded as important for conservation.
Since 2012, activists have occupied the forest. Some come for a day or a few weeks, others build permanent trees houses and have lived in the forest for years.
We filmed and interviewed Lenny, a young man who is building a new campsite inside the forest, after Police were ordered by local government to destroy the previous camps. It was so inspiring to meet these young people trying to actively stop something that they think is wrong for the planet at large.
